It’s been a few months since I did a post about my work projects, so I thought I would pop on here and share a few links!
Firstly, a thank you to Brand Tasmania, who continue to be one of my most regular clients – and also one of my favourites! My work for them involves taking interview transcripts and turning them into profiles. Sometimes there are a few as part of a series – women in sport, or healthcare workers – other times it’s just an inspiring individual who in some way captures what it means to be Tasmanian. My recent profiles have included:
- Cycling legend Sofia Tsamassiros
- Soccer superstar Holly-Lace Ayton
- Oral health therapist Dylan Vanuffelen
Next up, CSIRO – another regular and much loved client. I do ongoing work for the Valuing Sustainability Future Science Platform, and one-off projects like blog posts and fact sheets for other research units like Energy and Mineral Resources. Some recent work includes:
- A profile of researcher Dr Katrina Szetey
- Reflections from a co-production symposium
- A feature on agricultural innovation policy
- A summary of a new paper on integrating social measures into land sector carbon abatement
- An article on the use of algae in mining (!)
- An article on deep sea mining
It’s always such a treat to work with smart, engaged people who are passionate about their area of expertise.
We’re finally moving out of the Tasmanian winter and into spring now, but while I remember, here are three articles I had in the Winter edition of RACT Journeys.
Last but certainly not least, I had a wonderful time working with Merri Creek Management Committee on the copy for their 2025 fundraising appeal. As well as emails to supporters, I was lucky enough to work on four different stories for their eNews, all connected in some way to the campaign.
It can be really disheartening sometimes working in the climate and environment space, because there is so much focus on what’s going wrong.
But these stories all focus on things that are going right. From a renowned ecologist who turned his childhood love of nature into a 40 year career, to the conservation dog handler teaching her beautiful border collie to sniff out endangered plants; and from the incredible efforts taking place at a community farm, to the frog surveying work that was made possible by last year’s fundraising campaign – these are meaningful and authentic feel-good stories that were a delight to work on.
If you’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed by the world recently, I’d encourage you to read one or two of these and remember that sometimes the place where you can have the most impact is right on your own doorstep.
Thank you so much to these clients, and to all my other clients, who helped make 2024/2025 my busiest and best year ever as a freelancer. I appreciate you all, and look forward to helping you bring more stories to life in the coming months.
